After my 2ND trip to the elliptical machine in 3 days, I got to thinking. How much money would we, as overweight people, be willing to spend to be thin (again)? In this world of delivery under 30 minutes, and TV on demand, how much would we be willing to fork out (pardon the expression) if we can eat what we want and still lose weight? How many of us would put a 2ND or 3rd mortgage on the house? How many of us would get a line of credit? How many of us would max out our credit cards for that elusive magic pill?

We would give so much, yet do so little for it.

When I started to realize the lengths I would go to just to pay or a magic potion, I started thinking about the misery I felt every time I passed by that new Wendy's, or every time I walked passed those double stuffed Oreo cookies in the aisle (which I usually combine two cookies for a quadruple stuffed delight). I remembered the struggle I had just to get on the elliptical machine the first time, and the phantom pain in my legs, but mostly in my mind to get on it for a 2ND time. If it wasn't for the pulse pounding rhythm of Green Day, I don't know if I would have lasted.

But there lies the rub. There is no miracle cure, no magic elixir, no potent pill to change our bodies to what we want it to be. Appetite suppressants are the biggest scam because most overweight people do not eat because we are hungry. We eat of out habit and security, or for some people like me, because we just love food, and love it in large amounts.

Getting healthy again is a change is lifestyle. It's about finding new things to get excited about, and encouraging hard work through worthwhile short term objectives, and rewarding them when reached. I can't lose 100 pounds. That number is too big. It involves too much pain, sweat, and I am man enough to say it, tears. What I can do is struggle to 20. And then fight for another 20. And get myself something really great to look forward to each time. My reward for my first 20 pounds will be 1 week off of work for my day operation to remove my gall bladder. Not sure if that is a good enough reward honestly, but I have started to work out. I have an affordable back up reward that I was saving for my next 20, but we will see if I need more motivation.
