What causes weight gain is pretty straightforward: you consume more calories from food than the body uses or burns off in its daily tasks. Fiber when softened by water becomes soft and pliable, acting as an emollient. Best sources of fiber are whole grain bread, cereals, raw fruits, dried fruits and fresh vegetables. By eating in a way that works best with your particular metabolism, you may notice improved energy levels and not experience as many cravings between meals. Eat at least three meals a day, following a regular meal schedule and, whenever possible, eating at the same times each day. Whenever possible drink only distilled or water purified by some other means, such as reverse osmosis.

Rather than adhering to a rigid diet, you will be able to eat comfortably within your food group and see your weight gradually drop to a healthier level.
